New Decade, New Decor
2020 Colors Of The Year: How To Use Them, Inside And Out
Carol J. Alexander, WriterWhen the Pantone Color Institute announces its colors of the year, people pay attention. Everything emerges in the latest shades — from fashion and accessories to paint and other home décor.
Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue. The institute’s website describes it this way: “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
Classic Blue can freshen up your home inside and out.
Get The Blues
Inside, Classic Blue makes an excellent anchor for any room’s décor. Use the color to accent a wall, baseboards or trim. Or incorporate the shade via a new area rug or major piece of furniture, such as a sofa or wall unit.
Make a room pop by adding accessories in supporting colors. Consider:
- Throw pillows
- Floral arrangements
- Artwork
- A small piece of furniture, such as an occasional chair or ottoman
- Blankets
Take The Color Outside
A fresh coat of paint in the latest shade can brighten the exterior of your home and refresh its curb appeal. Consider taking a brush to your front door, garage door, patio surface or shutters.
To round out the look, use accent colors on light fixtures, patio furniture cushions or planters or consider flowers in similar shades.
Don’t Forget The Roof!
Like Pantone, Atlas Roofing annually names its Colors of the Year. The shades for 2020 come from its Pinnacle Pristine® architectural shingle line: Coastal Granite, in the Natural Expressions palette, and Weathered Shadow.
Described as anything but neutral, Coastal Granite’s deep gray tones reflect hints of blue, like the hues of a windswept coastline where ocean waves break against unyielding boulders — the perfect complement to almost any color home.
As its name suggests, Weathered Shadow reveals shades of rich browns with slight tints of dark red, making lighter colors pop against the contrast.
Visualize these colors on your roof with the Atlas RoofSwap! or Roof & Home Design Studio apps. They’re simple to use — just upload a photo of your home to experiment with different shingle colors and styles.
In addition to the color aesthetic, Pinnacle Pristine shingles feature Scotchgard Protector™ by 3M, which prevents the ugly black streaks caused by algae, allowing your roof to look newer longer.
2020 marks the beginning of a new decade, so why not also make it the beginning of a bright and colorful future for your home?
