Roofing Contractor: Colorado Exteriors, Denver, CO

Colorado Exteriors, based in Denver, CO, has been providing commercial and residential roofing services since 1989. The company has had great success convincing Homeowners Associations (HOAs) of the value of an Atlas Signature Select® Roofing System.

A recently completed project, the Aspen Ridge Apartments in Aurora, CO, is a great example. “Once we gave our presentation on the many benefits of Atlas Roofing products, the contractor selection committees of the HOA saw no need to consider any other company,” said Randy Howard, managing member of Colorado Exteriors.

The Performance They Needed

Members of the Aspen Ridge Apartments HOA wanted a durable, quality roof with impressive aesthetics. They also wanted the roof to retain its color for many years with minimal maintenance. Atlas had just the shingle: Pinnacle Pristine in Pristine Green — more than 1,500 squares of which were installed at Aspen Ridge.

Atlas Pinnacle Pristine architectural shingles feature Scotchgard™ Protector, which helps a roof maintain its appearance by resisting the black streaks caused by algae. A great-looking roof enhances a building’s overall visual appeal.

Unprotected shingles are vulnerable to algae growth, which causes unsightly black streaks that can ruin a roof’s appearance. More than 80 percent of the U.S. is prone to algae streaking on roofs.

“The Aspen Ridge HOA wanted a long-lasting roof for their investment and Pinnacle Pristine shingles with the Scotchgard Protector was the right choice,” Howard said. “They offer the best in protection and appearance at an affordable price.”

A Win-Win Project

From a roofer’s perspective, Howard was sold on the FASTAC® double seal strip and Sweet Spot nailing area provided by the Atlas high-performance shingles.

“Features such as these made Colorado Exteriors convert its large-scale projects to Atlas products,” he said. “Those are major decision factors for roofing contractors.”

What Howard liked about Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles was how the FASTAC double seal strip and true 1½-inch Sweet Spot™ nailing area helped pace the installation. They improved the install speed of his roof crew because of the stronger adhesion for placement and larger, clearly marked nailing area. The stronger adhesion also provides property owners with additional protection against wind and wind-driven rain.

The Aspen Ridge roof provided all of the components to qualify for the Atlas Signature Select Roofing System, which extends the premium protection period from 10 to 15 years. The premium protection period includes full system coverage, non-prorated labor and materials, and tear-off and disposal costs when needed.

“For durability, 1,500 square feet of Atlas Summit 60 synthetic underlayment was installed,” Howard said. “We capped the roof with over 240 bundles of Pro-Cut Hip and Ridge, which also feature Scotchgard Protector by 3M.”

Each Atlas Pro-Cut Hip and Ridge shingle is pre-cut to save roofers time on the deck and offer a more consistent installation every time. Roofing crews like that Pro-Cut Hip and Ridge is packed three shingles per strip with perforated parting lines for efficient handling on the roof.

The Warranty They Wanted

Howard believes the assurance that Atlas stands by its products was his best selling point.

“For multi-family projects, Atlas provides a transferable up to 50-year Limited Warranty, unlike most other shingle manufacturers’ 40-year warranties for comparable shingles,” he said. “That warranty is against manufacturing defects. Property owners can rely on Scotchgard Protector and the 20-year Atlas Algae Resistance Limited Warranty against the black streaks caused by algae. On top of all that, there is a 130 mph Wind Limited Warranty.”

In his initial meeting with the Aspen Ridge HOA, Howard gave a presentation detailing the many benefits an Atlas Signature Select roof system.

"Actually, it was the products, more than my talking, that made them decide to go with Atlas," he said. “Once they realized the benefits of Atlas shingles, underlayment and other components, they quickly decided that was the way to go.”
