“Rain, rain go away, come again another…”

We can sing, shout and beg for the rain to go away, but the summer storm season is right around the corner. No doubt, summer’s going to sizzle. But it’s also going to be soaked, according to Colorado State University forecasters.

They’re predicting that the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 - November 30) could bring 19 named storms — including nine hurricanes, four of those reaching Category 3 or higher with 129 mph winds.

So, what does that mean for homeowners? Plain and simple, there’s an “above-average probability for major hurricanes making landfall along the continental United States coastline and in the Caribbean,” researchers said.

As we’ve all been reminded time and again, hurricanes and intense summer storms aren’t exclusive to the coastlines anymore. Hurricanes are becoming more intense and maintaining their strength longer than ever before. They’re dumping inches (and sometimes feet) of rain and spawning tornadoes in towns and cities that aren’t prepared. Consider Hurricane Zeta in 2020, which made landfall in Louisiana and ripped through parts of central and northern Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, North and South Carolina and Virginia. States as far west as Tennessee and West Virginia felt the impact.

More than ever, storm preparation is essential for everyone. Now, before hurricane season starts, is the time to act. But where to begin? Atlas Roofing recommends starting from the top down.

Does your roof have missing, loose, buckling, curling, lifting or cracked shingles? Is the flashing missing? Are there water stains on your ceilings? Is your roof old?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, don’t risk it and waste another minute. Find a local roofing contractor who can help you determine which Atlas Signature Select® Roofing System is best for your home.
